Each month during the academic year (September-May), the history department honors one undergraduate history major or minor as the Student of the Month. All previous winners are eligible for the department's Student of the Year award.

Jackeline Sanchez is a history major with a minor in Spanish. She is the recipient of the Cardinal Elite Scholars Scholarship, one of the History Ambassadors for 2024-2025, a work-study student at the Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum, and a member of Phi Alpha Theta and the LU History Club. Jackeline also volunteers at the Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur.
